| I am one of those students who really and truly believed that I am not an artist. Under Alan's kind, good-natured, and direct tutelage, I found myself surprised as the work I did slowly and steadily actually became real works of art! Alan's positive attitude and gentle humor encourages every personality that comes into his studio. And the work that is produced by each and every student is genuinely worth looking at. Most of all, I appreciate Alan's spacious capacity to promote each person with their own unique taste, ability and skill. As far as I can tell, not only is Alan Fink a master artist, he is equally a master art teacher. I would recommend him to anyone.

I'd like to thank Alan for his direction, individualized attention, and sharing of his vast experience in my pursuit of learning the skills for charcoal drawing and pastel painting. With his comprehensive instruction I have built confidence in my drawing and developed insight into what constitutes a good pastel painting. And in addition to this supportive environment the warm atmosphere of sharing and growth with my fellow class enthusiasts makes all of it such great fun.

I knew many people who studied with Alan Fink and the Traditional School of Art for years. However, I was so intimidated by their amazing talent I did not feel I would measure up to the challenge. Finally I decided to take the challenge 8 years ago. Alan Fink is not only talented, knowledgeable and encouraging, but patient and inspiring. I am constantly in awe at the works of art that are being produced in the room around me. Now when people come to my home and see what I have painted, they call me talented and say they cannot believe I have kept this talent hidden from everyone. However, when I look around the classroom, as I paint, I realize how amazing all of the students are at what they have created. I am so glad that I had the nerve to take the challenge.

During my career as a speech and language pathologist for the Baltimore City Public Schools, I would create attractive bulletin boards containing my drawings of people and things, which were cartoon-like, to illustrate subject content. When I retired, my goal was to learn to draw and paint realistically.
I began art lessons with Alan in 1998. Alan, through his innate ability to convey to me what I need to place on my canvas has enabled me to continue to achieve that goal. With other art teachers, I did not have this success.

Attending the Saturday morning art class at the Fink School of Traditional Art is the highlight of my week. I've been coming to the school for 5 years now. I go for the art, but also look forward to the interesting conversations that always crop up within the group of women in my class. The women are so different, yet we all have the same interest...art. We encourage each other and compliment the work each has done.
Alan has this way of letting us discover the artist in us. He instructs by subtlety giving us suggestions. he makes me feel like I'm doing it on my own, but yet I know he has influenced my work. I'm not sure how he does this, but it's magical. I never knew I had this talent.
The two hours I spend in Alan's class is relaxing, almost meditative. I understand now why there are women in this class who have been coming to class for 10 or more years!

I am retired and have been attending the art school for several years. This is a very peaceful and happy place to come to. I had very little art experience before I came to the school and have completely enjoyed the sessions. Alan is so talented and encourages and works with each student according to their ability. Just to see his work inspires us all to take on challenges and to improve. Alan is always there to help, I have never lost my interest and look forward to the upcoming class. It is like stepping into a creative world for two hours a week and completely enjoying the time.
